About

Our first Distillery, An Dúlamán Gin Distillery, sits to the west of Sliabh Liag where the Abhainn Bhuí (pronounced Owenwee and meaning yellow river) and Glen rivers meet and flow into Teelin Bay. The site of the new whiskey distillery (construction 2020-21) is further along the Wild Atlantic Way in the historic town of Ardara which overlooks the beautiful Loughrosmore Bay.Just as Donegal is often thought of as a place apart, the Sliabh Liag brands are intentionally challenging and seek to be very different. The philosophy is simple: liquids and recipes which rely on strong local provenance and are worth talking about; striking designs that challenge conventional codes; to root each brand in a traditional local legend or folk tale.

Sliabh Liag Distillers is the first distilling company in the county for over 175 years, established with the purpose of reclaiming the distilling heritage of Donegal. Two Scatterlings have returned to Sliabh Liag with their Meitheal (work-gang or team) to create a legacy that the whole community can be proud of. Located on the Sliabh Liag peninsula, the two distilleries are surrounded by one of the world’s most striking landscapes populated by resilient people, steeped in folklore and with a legendary distilling heritage. Driven by a passion for authenticity, the calling is to recreate the rich liquids and challenging smoky Irish whiskies from before the industrial revolution, harnessing the knowledge and legends of the west coast of Ireland to bring a modern, confident Donegal Gaeltacht to the world through super-premium spirits brands.
